A Transition Town Tooting project funded by Wandsworth Grant Fund. Cultivating the seeds of a greener Wandsworth through connecting with nature and celebrating our local streets.
For 2021 we are again hosting a Community Seed Swap and will continue to help residents to plant in street tree pits around Wandsworth.
Now there are more opportunities for the public to get involved in Sharing Seeds: by planting and growing, alongside creative activities that help us explore our natural, urban landscape using our imaginations, we will take ownership of our local streets. Now, more than ever, outdoor time is scarce, and with community gardens like ours forced to close during lockdown, there are fewer places that those who don’t have their own green space at home can connect with nature in their local area.
Sharing Seeds is funded by the Wandsworth Grant Fund. The project will be focussed in Tooting, an area where some of Wandsworth's finest street trees reside. There are many Tooting street-tree bases currently bare - you can take part by planting in them, helping improve the soil and encourage pollinators. Planting street tree bases means you, the public, get to form a relationship with a particular tree, get involved in improving how your local streets look, sound and smell, and get to enjoy the experience of growing and seeing new plants develop through the year.
Hi - is this project limited to Tooting. I live in Battersea and I'm sure neighbours in my street (where we are lucky enough to have half a dozen or so trees with neglected bases) would love to participate.
