Travelling Seed Creatures - workshop write-up

Sharing Seed Facilitators, Nikki Hafter and Becky Howarth, ran an online workshop with J4Y Beaver Scout Group this Sunday.  All senses were awoken from the get go as 22 8-year olds explored from their homes the aray of seeds Sharing Seeds had provided them with. They moved their fingers blind around the variety of textures ; peered down toilet roll telecopes to have a closer look, listened to a soundtrack of a forest cacophony and imagined and shared the sounds the seeds would make if they had a voice.  The session them moved to an imagination of how the seeds could travel. The group looked at dandelion, burdock, acorns and himalayan bulsen and guessed how the seeds would travel around Tooting before applying the same logic to the set of seeds in front of them.  With imaginations running, the group then sculptured Seed Creatures to transport the wild flower seed mix Sharing Seeds had provided. Make your own recycled Seed Envelopes!

It's easy to make your own envelopes to saving seeds in for next season. You can recycle any kind of paper, and have fun doing it! Below you can see our favourite design, with step-by-step pictures, and some examples we made. Did you know, most seeds should be used within 2-3 years of harvesting? Don't forget to label them with the full name of the seed, and the year you harvested them! Video by Roshnay
